Welcome to Newcastle City Council Cycling website. We hope that you will find this site useful, and that you will be able to find all the information that you need to make your cycling experience in Newcastle as enjoyable as possible. Should you have any comments about either the site or cycling in general, please use the get in touch tab above
We all know cycling is great for the environment, but it has other benefits too. Its cheap, quick and can help to keep you fit and healthy. In congested suburbs, it can be the easiest way to get from A to B. No petrol, paperwork or parking worries, and regular cyclists enjoy fitness levels equivalent to being 10 years younger.
A compact city with lots of green space, Newcastle is ideally suited for cycling. Whether you are going to the supermarket, for a day out or the daily commute, you can do it all by bike. And we're investing in new cycle paths and parking facilities to get even more people on their bikes. Ok, it rains sometimes but its surprisingly rare and a few quid spent on waterproofs can help to keep you dry.
You don't have to be a super fit lycra-clad athlete to cycle. A quarter of our car trips are for journeys under 2 miles. Imagine the pleasant change in our city if even 10% of these trips transferred to bike. So next time you're stuck in a traffic jam watching cyclists whizz by, why not join us?
